Sandwich Harbour is a place where you have to go or regret it for the rest of your life. Sandwich is only accessible with a good 4 wheel drive vehicle and a fully qualified driver who has lots of experience of the dunes.The Sandwich Harbour tour starts in Walvis Bay with a visit to the flamingos in the lagoon and a stop on the dunes at the Salt Works, to see where the salt comes from that melts the snow in Europe!From there we drive through the Kuiseb Delta where the sight of a Springbok or two is not uncommon and over the salt plains to the Namib Naukluft Park border. Once inside, we drive on the beach to Sandwich Harbour.At Sandwich Harbour lagoon we stop so our clients can take a stroll alongside the lagoon for photos of the birds and beautiful nature scenes.On our way back we visit a viewpoint on the dunes to look down on the lagoon, from where we drive for approx. 6km through the dunes back to the border.

Here you might see some cape fur seal, black backed jackal and black backed Cape Cormorant. Access to Sandwich harbor is tidal, which means we cannot enter the harbor at high tide. Sandwich harbor itself has two natural tidal lagoons. Your guide will take you for a walk at the side of the lagoon, if you want to. We can take you to the top of the dunes at Sandwich for a better view of the area, or you can climb the dune yourself, if you prefer. Please note, this tour goes into nature, far from civilization. As such, there are no toilets. If you do like the thrill of driving on sand dunes, the return journey has the opportunity of some very large dunes and slip-faces. It's like a roller coaster without the rails. If dune driving is not to your liking, you can leave Sandwich Harbor along the coast as well for a much more relaxed experience.On the way back there is a dune track with some wildlife, mostly Springbuck and Falcon, with the option of larger dunes for the adrenaline junkies. You will also visit the lighthouse of Walvis Bay at Pelican Point, to see the second amazing harbor.
